The late Master Ken H.H. Thow, alongside Grandmaster Lieutenant-Colonel(R) J.S.Lim, established several fight clubs at the London School of Economics (LSE), City University and University College of London during the late 1970's. An early pioneer of the Korean martial arts scene, Master Ken initially taught ITF style Taekwondo before converting to the Chung Do Kwan system during the mid 1980s.

Master Ken held the rank of 6th Dan in Taekwondo, but many who were fortunate to have trained with him will remember his passion for the wider martial arts universe; he held senior ranks in Karate, Hapkido, Kali-eskrima, Wing Chun and Northern Shaolin Kung Fu among others. The late Master was as adept with his bare hands as he was with the "balisong" (butterfly knife). eskrima baton sticks and the Chinese three-section staff.

The LSE Club continues to be run by senior students of the late Master since his passing.

GM Adrian St CYRIEN (RIP)

Former Head of KOMA UK

The late GM Adrian St CYRIEN was the former head of KOMA UK.

GM Adrian was born on 9th March 1958 and passed away on 9th October 2021. He first started martial arts training with Judo. In 1972 at age 14 he started Kyokushin Karate. While attending college in 1974 (Engineering major) he met two Malaysian students who had started a TaeKwonDo (TKD) club.

In-between studying TKD, Adrian also studied HapKiDo (HKD), Thai Boxing, Kick Boxing, Wado-Ryu, Shorinji-Ryu and Tiger/Crane Kung Fu. Adrian also had the privilege to train under the following Grandmasters of Taekwondo: Founder of ChungdDoKwan Taekwondo, GGM Won-Kuk LE; GM Hae-Man PARK; GM Cha-Sok PARK TKD/HKD. He was ranked 9th Dan YBTI, 8th Dan TKD CDK; 7th Dan HKD and 5 Dan SimMuDo.

GM Adian was an ‘old school’ Martial Artist. He wanted to be sure that the technique worked and hence training with him was tough. He would sometimes say, ‘I would rather have just one dedicated student than have 200 who are chasing belts. He had no time for posers or show offs – if he did not like you then you were out. He never taught for the money, he taught for the love of Martial Arts.

Whilst he looked for technical ability, what he was really looking for was the student’s ability to ‘go to the well’ and ‘dig deep’. He would take you to the edge so that you knew where the edge was. He wanted you to know that if you could endure a seven hour black belt grading then you had the skills, temperament and focus to succeed in all aspects of your like.

GM Adrian is a much missed Martial Artist whose world was all about honor, respect and dedication.
